Role and Team Description
Brazil Core Product Development is a group dedicated to design and create state of the art software products to empower Motorola mobile devices. The team objective is to develop best-in-class software systems that make the end users' experiences delightful and solid. In order to do so, the team in Brazil collaborates with all other software groups worldwide on key software development spanning embedded software such as Android framework and applications including Motorola differentiated experiences, cloud Development, quality assurance, and the enhancement of development techniques and tools.
This particular position is in a team of talented engineers that work on Android lower layers developing embedded software for the upgrades of the Android Operating System in Motorola devices and help coordinate the technical aspects of the project, with focus on the phone system software architecture, working across all Android layers and supporting complex issues that span multiple components impacting stability, performance, memory leaks, ANRs, etc. Please see Basic and Preferred Qualifications for the position below on this page.
The product of this work will board Motorola smartphones worldwide, including the iconic Moto G device family, reaching millions of customers.
This position is based in Motorola Jaguariúna-SP site.
Scope of Responsibilities
- Interface with 3rd party partner (external team) and Motorola Tech Teams working across multiple Android software components (Kernel, Framework, Connectivity, Multimedia, Network Interfaces, etc.), system wide, and supporting software releases
- Support the technical coordination of 3rd party partner
- Design and code software solutions, including merging changes from 3rd parties
- Ability to conceive solutions to complex technical problems spanning multiple components
- Test & debugging
- Triage, analyze and, if needed, provide fixes for issues on SW build line
- Requirements analysis
- Interface with HW and SW component suppliers
- Constantly improve the team's operational efficiency by innovating processes and tools
- Communicate status, discuss project plans and schedules with stakeholders
Basic Qualifications
- B.S./M.S in Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar area
- 5+ years of experience on software development
- Embedded software development experience
- Experience with Linux development: user space and Device Drivers
- C, C++, Java, Android OS
- Experience with Git, Configuration Management
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both Portuguese and English
- Strong problem solving skills as well as ability to learn quickly
- Ability to provide technical guidance to a development team
- Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
- Ability to work with external vendors/third parties decisively
- Teamwork, collaboration, and sharing are key
- Be self-directed, result oriented and able to quickly adapt to changes
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with mobile device software development & testing (Android platform)
Experience with development tools like Jira and Gerrit
Experience working in a demanding work environment and accelerated product life cycle
Ability to adapt to changes in priorities and market focus
Experience in embedded software development:
ARM, Qualcomm and/or Mediatek chipset architecture
Android architecture (framework, services, intents, wakelocks, low memory killer, binder, etc.)
Embedded Linux kernel, device drivers, device tree, SE Linux
Android and hardware bringup
Android filesystems, encryption, SD Card storage
Android stability: Experience parsing ramdumps, analysing panic reports
Performance: Experience using code profilers and tracing
Mobile network architecture and protocols (3G/4G/5G)
Network protocols and network performance tools (e.g., TCP/IP, IPSec, iPerf)
Mobile network services and protocols (e.g., VoLTE, VoWiFi, RCS, SIP, IMS architecture)
