Position Overview
We are seeking Automation & Maintenance Engineers to support line-side production operations in a highly automated manufacturing environment. This role is focused on production equipment (not facilities maintenance), including automation systems, robotics, and PLC-driven machinery.
Engineers in this role are responsible for maximizing equipment uptime, troubleshooting issues, restoring systems, and supporting new automation deployments. The ideal candidate has a blend of mechanical, electrical, controls, and robotics experience, with strong hands-on troubleshooting skills in fast-paced production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Automation & Production Equipment Support
- Perform line-side maintenance for production automation systems
- Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize motors, belts, drives, conveyors, sensors, and related components
- Execute fault recovery and system restoration safely and efficiently
- Support installation and ramp-up of new automation equipment
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and performance
PLC & Controls
- Read and interpret PLC ladder logic; perform basic program adjustments
- Access and troubleshoot PLC panels and control systems
- Analyze system behavior and support root cause identification
- Partner with teams to ensure PLC performance aligns with production needs
Robotics
- Support teaching, troubleshooting, and calibration of industrial/collaborative robots
- Use teach pendants or programming tools to adjust robot paths and positions
- Follow safe robot operation practices (e.g., manual jogging, safety controls)
- Assist with integration of new robotic systems
General Maintenance
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on production equipment
- Replace and repair mechanical and electrical components (motors, belts, drives, etc.)
- Fine-tune conveyors and material handling systems
- Maintain maintenance records and support continuous improvement efforts
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with automation, robotics, and manufacturing teams
- Communicate issues, escalations, and production updates clearly
- Support hiring, interviews, and team scale-up efforts as needed
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications (Required)
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years supporting production automation systems (not facilities maintenance)
- Strong troubleshooting of motors, conveyors, drives, sensors, and electro-mechanical systems
- Working knowledge of PLC systems (ladder logic, diagnostics, basic modifications)
- Experience working safely with industrial electrical systems and control panels
- Hands-on experience with industrial or collaborative robotics
- Ability to perform fault recovery, root cause analysis, and system restoration
- Knowledge of industrial safety practices (LOTO, machine guarding, robot safety)
- Ability to work on-site, including shift or on-call support
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Siemens, Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), or similar PLCs
- Experience with robot programming, teaching, and calibration
- Familiarity with automation integration and system optimization
- Experience with high-volume automated production lines
- Strong diagnostic skills using HMI, SCADA, or industrial tools
- Background in advanced manufacturing environments (automotive, electronics, robotics, fulfillment)
- Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methods
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
