Description and Requirements

Role Overview

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to spearhead legal aspects of global market entry initiatives for Lenovo’s Vehicle Computing products and services — specifically targeting the United States, Asia, and the European Union.

You will work under the guidance of the General Counsel to design market-entry legal strategies, structure cross-border transactions, and ensure compliance with local laws and industry regulations. While direct automotive industry experience is preferred, candidates from other highly regulated technology sectors will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

1. Market Entry Legal Strategy

o Research and analyze regulatory landscapes in target markets (US, Japan, South Korea, Asia ex-China, EU).

o Advise on entity setup, foreign investment regulations, import/export controls, and market-specific compliance requirements.

2. Commercial Contracting

o Draft, review, and negotiate market-entry agreements including distribution, agency, joint venture, and OEM/Tier 1 supply contracts.

o Support localization of global templates to meet regional legal standards.

3. Regulatory Compliance & Risk Assessment

o Monitor regulatory developments affecting autonomous driving, vehicle electronics, data protection, and carbon-neutrality solutions.

o Partner with compliance teams to implement region-specific policies and procedures.

4. Cross-Border Legal Support

o Coordinate with external counsel in target jurisdictions to address local corporate, tax, labor, and IP issues.

o Assist in obtaining necessary certifications, approvals, and registrations for new market operations.

5. Stakeholder Collaboration

o Work closely with business development, sales, product, and supply chain teams to align legal execution with go-to-market plans.

o Provide clear, pragmatic guidance to non-legal colleagues on market-entry risks and opportunities.

6. Dispute Prevention & Resolution

o Identify potential legal risks early and propose mitigation strategies.

o Assist in handling any pre-litigation disputes arising from cross-border transactions.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB or JD); admission to practice in at least one common law jurisdiction is an advantage.

• Experience: Minimum 5–6 years of post-qualification legal experience, ideally in cross-border transactions, technology, or multinational corporate environments.

• Industry Exposure: Familiarity with automotive or related high-tech industries is a plus, but not required.

• Regional Knowledge: Understanding of US, Asian, and EU regulatory frameworks — either through practice or academic study.

• Skills: Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and cross-cultural communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects in diverse jurisdictions.

• Languages: Fluent in English; proficiency in Japanese, Korean, or other Asian languages is beneficial.

• Mindset: Commercially oriented, adaptable, and able to operate in a fast-paced, global business environment.
