Description and Requirements

Lenovo is seeking a business-solutions-driven Legal Director to support the office of the Group Operating Officer (GOO). The position will report to Lenovo’s General Counsel, IDG and will be in either in the US (Chicago, IL, Morrisville, NC)

This position will assist the office of the GOO in their effort to harmonize end-to-end business processes and tools across all Lenovo operations; drive operational performance; and drive company-wide digital transformation.  The position will primarily focus on providing support to Lenovo’s Global Supply Chain VP, but will also be responsible for supporting WW Strategic Alliances; WW Sales Operations; and Corporate Strategic Projects.  Additionally, this position will collaborate with his/her counterparts in Lenovo’s Business Units, and their respective Chief Operating Officers (COO’s), and other strategy and operations personnel.

Responsibilities include proactively advising senior leadership and their global business teams in areas such as supply chain and distribution issues, strategic partnerships and alliances, corporate strategy, alternative/creative business models, regulatory compliance, and commercial disputes.  The Legal Director will act as an interface and liaison to the GOO for other Corporate Legal functions such as IP, Ethics & Compliance, Data Privacy, Contracting Center of Excellence and Litigation, the Geo Legal teams and Government Relations & Trade.  The candidate should be knowledgeable in the mechanics and economics of the electronics manufacturing industry, and able to work in a fast-paced environment, supporting an innovative technology company.  The candidate is expected to be a trusted business advisor and collaborative team member in pursuing key global business initiatives.


Position Requirements:

  • JD Degree.
  • Experience with negotiating complex legal agreements with strategic partners, especially in the supply chain context.
  • Familiarity with supply chain best practices, and issues related to vendor management.
  • 12+ years post-qualification experience in international business and contract law, along with strong business and financial acumen.
  • Technology industry experience with a strategic grasp of IP, particularly in the growing 5G landscape.
  • Fluent in English.
  • “Executive presence” and experience engaging with senior-level colleagues and clients globally.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (including legal drafting).

Desired Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in business or engineering a plus.
  • Combination of law firm and in-house experience.
  • Innovative/creative and practical in crafting solutions that both enable and protect business interests.
  • Deep understanding of dynamics and key business drivers in the technology industry.
  • Fluent in Mandarin
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Strategic agility.
  • Strength in “issue-spotting” based on broad exposure to multiple fields of law.
  • Sound judgment and advanced analytical skills.
  • Ability to anticipate, proactively manage and mitigate legal risks, and to effectively advise on risk management and mitigation.
  • Capable of managing multiple matters simultaneously, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work together as a team player with other functional legal SMEs
  • Ability to zealously represent Lenovo’s interests and leverage relationships with equally as sophisticated vendors and customers.  
  • Ability to assess legal matters quickly, and calmly, absorbing shocks in order to present a clear and coherent response in stressful situations.
