Description and Requirements


Position Description:

Lenovo aims to expand its Cloud and Software (CSW) team as part of the Global Innovation Center (GIC) engineering team in Bucharest, Romania. We seek an experienced and visionary Cloud and Software Engineering Leader to lead and expand our global software delivery capabilities. This role will span technical, operational, and strategic domains, serving as a cornerstone for our Cloud and Software engineering endeavors.

As the critical leadership role in our Romania development center, the selected candidate will establish and oversee multiple teams in cloud software engineering, product engineering, cloud infrastructure operations, and software quality assurance. Ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery of high-quality software will be a primary focus of this crucial position.

The CSW Global Innovation Center in Lenovo builds the cloud platform upon which our internal applications and SaaS solutions are hosted. This role will lead multiple engineering teams responsible for the design, implementation, operations, and support of our cloud platform and various SaaS solutions that run on the cloud and device platform. In this role, you will be supported by the respective Engineering manager, Technical Leaders, and project managers. You will work closely with the Engineering, Product owners, and Program management leadership team.

What you would be doing…

Technical Leadership:

  • Oversee the end-to-end delivery of all software development projects collaborating closely with other global engineering teams and centers.
  • Ensure the highest quality of software deliverables, incorporating best-in-class development, testing, and deployment practices.
  • Lead the cloud strategy, ensuring scalable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions.

Operational Leadership:

  • Serve as the site manager, establishing and refining software delivery practices that promote efficiency, innovation, and excellence.
  • Take charge of timely completion of projects, implementing methodologies and processes that promote agility and adaptability.
  • Act as the decision-maker for the site, driving both tactical and strategic initiatives to fruition.
  • Manage and own the budget for team expansion, ensuring the optimal allocation of resources and a clear ROI on investment decisions.

Strategic Direction:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align the engineering vision with the broader company strategy.
  • Keep abreast of the latest industry trends and emerging technologies, ensuring our company remains at the forefront of the industry.
  • Drive innovation by fostering a culture of creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.

Team Setup and Leadership:

  • Recruit, onboard, and lead multiple high-performing teams specialized in cloud software engineering, cloud infrastructure operations, and software quality assurance.
  • Provide clear direction, mentorship, and guidance to managers and senior team members, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence within the teams.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate closely with other engineering leaders and stakeholders across different locations to align strategies and drive consistent development practices.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management, reporting on project progress, team performance, and critical milestones.

What you’ll bring to the role…

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, equivalent training, or work experience.
  • 20 years of experience in software engineering, 10+ years of engineering management experience in building and scaling a global engineering team operating high-scale cloud infrastructure
  • Prior Engineering management experience of 30+ team members is required; preference would be a manager-of-manager experience of at least five years.
  • Demonstrable experience leading global teams, managing offshore squads & 3rd party vendor teams, experience building cloud solutions which include networking, security, container, Identity, and access management mechanisms and structures.
  • Solid technical background and large-scale practical experience with public cloud platforms, solution design, and software architecture.
  • You have a proven track record of executing customer-facing software development initiatives across diverse product teams. Provide resource management to major industries by forecasting resource demands with functional areas, coordinating staffing projects with managers, and providing work direction and coaching.
  • Experience building and maintaining a 3-tier infrastructure support model, including development, site reliability, and front-line incident management functions in a chain of continuous improvement.
  • The ability to synthesize all inputs from stakeholder engineering teams and develop a crisp long-term technology and process roadmap, with the ability to adjust and realign at the speed of the business.
  • Prior experience in IC or Manager role involving Azure, AWS, AliCloud, or distributed VMware environments; demonstrating knowledge of one container technology such as Docker, knowledge of design and implementation with code management toolings such as GitHub / GitLab as well as CI/CD pipeline tooling Jenkins, Jenkins X, Bamboo, and deployments.
  • Demonstrable leadership, influencing, and communication skills, and the ability to drive continuous performance improvements with the stakeholders, vendors, and technology subject matter specialists.
