Description and Requirements

Lenovo is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to join our Hardware User Experience team. The employee will apply User Centered Design principles and design practices to support the development computing products and underlying technologies that promote ease of use, good design and an optimal user experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead activities in the product design process by applying ergonomic and usability design principles to PC & Smart device design.
  • Work collaboratively with cross functional project team members and business peers to propose the best experience for the end user.
  • Develop and maintain design specifications and other design documentation that will be used as guidance for cross functional team members.
  • Utilize ideation skills to effectively communicate design ideas to others.
  • Conduct usability studies of prototype and existing designs during various phases of concept and product development. Translate study results into actionable design recommendations and product requirements.
  • Understand target audiences’ needs and other motivating factors and translate them into concepts for comfortable, compelling and competitive product experiences.
  • Plan and execute iterative user research and analysis projects including but not limited to task analysis, competitive assessments, bench marking, customer interviews, concept testing, usability testing and heuristic evaluations. Educate others outside the User Experience team on HF design methodologies and advocate the benefits of good UX design.
  • Identify user insights and lead new initiatives to deliver industry-leading user experiences.
  • Establish a technical vitality plan to remain current in fields of human factors, user research, HCI, and product design.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills


  • Bachelor degree (Masters preferred) in Human Factors, Human Computer Interaction, Biomechanics, Ergonomics, Cognitive Psychology, Engineering, or related fields.
  • 3 to 5 years professional UX experience preferred. Open to candidates with less experience and a Master’s degree.
  • Familiarity with user experience and design concepts.
  • Experience with performing hardware usability assessments. (highly preferred)
  • Familiarity and experience executing a user-centered design (UCD) driven project.
  • Creative with a strong design sense.
  • Be able to work independently as well as take direction and work within established strategic and business guidelines.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and international multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Ability to travel (approx 10%)
