Description and Requirements

Position Description 

As a mobile workstation (MWS) performance engineer, your primary responsibility will be performance analysis on several of our mobile products as well as learning about our desktop products and assisting with benchmarking as needed.  The team is flexible, so although you will be primarily a MWS performance engineer, you can also expect to work on a variety of other workstation products as needed.


You will be responsible for performance on all major subsystems including CPU, memory, GPU, storage (including RAID), and occasionally networking. Initially You will work with other members of the team to learn different aspects of performance engineering as well as how to resolve issues and know when to question results.  

This position will require you to: 

  • Develop an understanding of MWS performance and the various aspects of these products that impact both battery life and performance and how to optimize the system for both.
  • Analyze and review benchmark results with an eye towards an in-depth understanding of what the results mean, and when the results may be incorrect, or are indicating performance issues related to hardware, thermal, and/or software/driver/firmware issues. 
  • Work with more senior members of the team to help resolve or explain these issues.
  • Execute performance test plans. 
  • Swap hardware GPUs, memory, and storage devices as needed. 
  • Install OS’s, drivers, BIOS, and firmware updates. 
  • Load and run various benchmarks to test the performance of the CPU, memory, GPU, storage, and battery.
  • Put together and present data to both the performance team as well as the sales teams and directly to customers.
  • Run performance benchmarks against competitive products to identify and understand areas where Lenovo products are better or worse.  Over time your responsibilities will grow to working directly with the development team to run performance tests on pre-production level hardware as well as debug performance issues and work to resolution.


Position Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar field.
  • 1 - 2+ years’ experience. 
  • Basic understanding of computer architecture. 
  • Basic understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems, BIOS, device drivers. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Eagerness to learn new concepts and take on new challenges. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer first attitude required.      
  • Willingness to be flexible and change depending on the needs of the business.
