Description and Requirements

Position Description

Solutions and Services Group (SSG) is a newly set up business unit within Lenovo to drive the company’s transformation by delivering incremental business across product related services, manage, services, cloud services, smart vertical solutions and ‘as a service offerings’ including DaaS and Truscale.

Within SSG, the Technical Strategy and Portfolio Management team is charged with reimagining the way that Lenovo delivers, develops, and approaches its services and solutions framework to its customers and partners.

The Director of Strategy will provide leadership as the team creates the innovation system and framework to drive long-term results for SSG, and develops the processes, systems, and governance to bring the innovations to life. Additionally, this person will identify and develop a point of view on emerging technologies and how they influence current and future services. The role will include managing the technology portfolio and roadmap, providing investment transparency, identifying gaps and areas of leverage and opportunity.


Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the effort in researching and investigating new technologies, market changes, trends, and customer requirements from a wide variety of sources.
  • Coordinate / develop a POV to inform SSG on emerging and available technologies for offerings, helping SSG build a substantial pipeline of opportunities driven by technology.
  • Contribute technical detail and recommendations to the SSG long term investment and budgeting process.
  • Develop and apply technology strategy to a given SSG Domain, driving offering and roadmap development.
  • Inform offering and solution development, assisting with prioritization and sequencing, driving technical strategy into build-leverage-partner decisions.
  • Lead the development and operation of an SSG technology portfolio, including creating visibility, managing the overall portfolio – optimizing value creation from technical investment.
  • Identify opportunities to rationalize, leverage or evolve the SSG technical portfolio to accelerate time-to-value and mitigate risk.
  • For a given area / process, develop and deploy elements of measurement, governance, process, KPIs, systems, and automation.
  • Lead / contribute to the development of an innovation platform that will allow innovation at scale and speed.
  • Drive potential partnership opportunities that influence our competing position and ability to provide end-to-end solutions
  • Serve as the R&D representative in various company committees and act as a contact person for internal / external communications.

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree and experience in one of the following areas; cloud, software, services, solutions R&D.
  • 7+ years of direct work experiences leading complex, global technology initiatives.
  • Deep domain experience in one or more verticals (Manufacturing, Education, Health Care, Financial) and/or technologies (Hybrid cloud, AR/VR, Metaverse, AI/ML, enterprise architecture, data cloud / lake)
  • Experience with solution development, including idea generation, prioritization, developing business cases, and articulating the customer or financial value of the solution.  
  • Familiarity with innovation or incubation, as an idea owner, product developer, commercialization lead, or ecosystem owner.
  • Ability to grapple with ambiguity and leverage a combination of data, experience, and insight to  formulate recommendations and findings.
  • Experience and ability to achieve results in a global company and matrixed environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct, demonstrable leadership in Product Management and Agile product / solutions development settings.
  • Business Services knowledge.


The base salary range for this position in Colorado, New York City, Nevada and Washington, is $190,000 - $230,000. Individuals may also be considered for bonus and/or commission. Lenovo’s various benefits can be found on www.lenovobenefits.com
