Motorola Mobility, a Lenovo Company is seeking highly talented & motivated researchers with demonstrated experience in wireless research and standardization to join our world-class wireless research group.

You will report to Director, Next Generation Wireless Technologies. You will participate in periodic collaborative planning calls and meetings.

What you’ll bring/ Position Requirements: 

  • Identify advances to current radio and core network architecture and identifying new architectural solutions to complex communication problems spanning the ICT and vertical sectors
  • Proactively identify new areas requiring advanced network technologies including deterministic networking, Network analytics,
  • Define advanced features for radio interface and protocol layers
  • Drive those best-in-class solutions into next generation standards.

Position Requirements:  Who Are You?

Basic Qualifications: Advanced degree (PhD/MS) in communications or signal processing related discipline is preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess strong analytical skills and fundamental grasp of mobile communications theoretic concepts in one or more forward looking wireless technology/areas such as:
  • Deep understanding of Radio network architecture and radio protocol layers
  • Mobile system architectures including at least 4G (LTE/EPC) and 5G (NG-RAN/5GC),
  • Mobility management and Session management procedures between terminal and network, interworking between PLMNs
  • 3GPP communication protocols between terminal and RAN (e.g., RRC) and terminal and core network (e.g. NAS),
  • Device-to-Device and Vehicular Communications and Networks,
  • Deep understanding of the QoS framework in 3GPP, policy and charging control.
  • Understanding and experience with features such as Cellular IoT (NB-IoT, LTE-M), support of Vertical and LAN Services (NPN, 5G-LAN, URLLC) and Multicast and broadcast (MBMS),
  • Experience on support of non-3GPP accesses in 5GC (ATSSS, multipath TCP)
  • Security framework in 3GPP,
  • Deep understanding and experience with H.265/HEVC Codecs, video codecs for enabling XR, and 3D/immersive audio.
  •  QoS parameters, multi-media quality evaluation and end-to-end performance of multi-media services.
  • 3GPP Standardisation, esp. System Architecture (SA) and Core network and Terminals (CT) working groups.
  • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills.

It would be a plus if you ...

  • The preferred candidate can demonstrate a record of accomplishment (e.g., standards contributions, conference contributions/posters, patents) in the listed areas,
  • The preferred candidate has knowledge about the design, modelling or implementation of 3GPP communication protocols.
