Lenovo is seeking Automation & Maintenance Engineers to support line‑side production operations within a highly automated manufacturing environment. Unlike facilities maintenance roles, this position is focused specifically on production equipment, automation systems, robotics, and PLC‑driven machinery. These engineers will ensure uptime, troubleshoot equipment, integrate automation, and support ongoing scale as new collaborative robots and systems are deployed.
The ideal candidate has blended experience across robotics, automation, and traditional mechanical/electrical maintenance, with the ability to diagnose issues quickly and work hands‑on with highly technical production equipment.
Responsibilities
Automation & Production Equipment Support
- Perform line‑side maintenance for production automation systems (not facilities maintenance).
- Troubleshoot, repair, and optimize motors, belts, drives, conveyors, sensors, and other core production components.
- Conduct recovery procedures after equipment faults and restore systems safely and efficiently.
PLC & Controls
- Understand PLC ladder logic and perform basic program adjustments or modifications.
- Confidently enter PLC panels to review, diagnose, and analyze system logic.
- Work with cross‑functional teams to ensure PLC programs support desired production performance.
Robotics
- Support teaching, troubleshooting, and calibration of collaborative robots.
- Use handheld teach pendants or remote programming methods to safely adjust robot motion paths and locations.
- Apply safe operation practices including dead‑man switches, manual jogging, and controlled programming environments.
General Maintenance
- Perform standard mechanical and electrical maintenance including component replacements (motors, tubes, drives, belts).
- Fine‑tune conveyor settings and verify operational parameters.
- Maintain documentation, perform preventative maintenance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with automation engineers, robotics teams, manufacturing supervisors, and operations leadership.
- Contribute to hiring, interviews, and skill‑assessment conversations as needed.
- Support scale‑up of additional automation roles as new phases of hiring are approved.
Basic Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with production automation, robotics, or PLC‑driven systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control‑system issues.
- Experience teaching or operating collaborative robots (preferred but not required).
- Willingness to perform both robotics work and traditional maintenance tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in job titles such as:
- Automation Engineer
- Robotics Engineer
- Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Engineer
- Automation & Maintenance Engineer
- Comfort working in high‑growth or newly scaling manufacturing environments.
- Ability to understand equipment holistically, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and robotics.
