Motorola 312 Labs, a newly chartered internal innovation group within the Motorola product organization, comprising global research, design and engineering experts focused on first-of-its-kind product development. This group will explore the unknown through research, ideation, concepting, and prototyping to usher in radically different mobile solutions and technologies in both the near and distant future. Motorola has brought innovation to market such as shatterproof screens, moto mods and the foldable Razr. Motorola 312 Labs will continue to accelerate new technologies to market and assist the wider Lenovo Group. Looking ahead, 312 Labs is focused on a few key research areas including the connected ecosystem of the future, metaverse evolution, exploring new and unique mobile form factors and wearables, advancing displays, and AR/VR technologies. Antenna architecture team is responsible for designing the antenna architecture of 312 Lab products.  We validate antenna design concepts through extensive simulation and prototyping to ensure optimal antenna performance.  Working across global product design disciplines, from RF and Mechanical Engineering to Industrial Design, we architect and design antennas that meet regulatory and certification requirements for our 5G devices.

Scope of Responsibilities:

As an Architecture and Design Antenna Engineer your project work will include:

  • Taking ownership of the full life-cycle development of antennas, from fundamental design phases to proof of concept prototyping through all the way to product production

  • Working with the Mechanical Engineering and CXD teams to verify design proposals that work within the framework of the product

  • Performing simulations of your prototypes to guarantee compliance with product specifications

  • Characterizing and verifying antenna performance using network analyzers and anechoic antenna chambers

  • Collaborate internally with RF, Software, Modem and Product Integration teams

  • Working with multiple globally-based teams to evaluate antenna performance for VSWR, return loss, efficiency, gain, radiation patterns, TRP and TIS


 

Qualifications:

  • PhD or Masters in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Antenna, RF, and Electromagnetics

  • 2-3 years of industry experience with antenna architecture, design, simulation and prototyping

  • Experience with antenna simulation tools (HFSS, XFDTD, CST, etc)

  • Familiarity with antenna matching circuit design in ADS and Optenni

  • Experience in fabrication and prototyping abilities, including soldering and assembly

  • Experience and familiarity in 5G technology

  • Possess specialized expertise in antenna architecture and design in cell phone or similar compact form factor

  • Ability to work in collaboration with other teams and disciplines

  • Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal
