About Our Team

Lenovo's Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) is hiring a Level 3 Product Engineer (PE) to support growth across Lenovo’s Storage SystemsThis role serves as Lenovo’s field interface to Remote Support and OEM Partner engineering teams.  

Traditional Product Engineer (PE) responsibilities will apply to cases that require problem determination and problem source isolation on storage systems, hosts that connect to storage, and all components in-between.  The PE may engage development for further analysis of design, and architectural issues and for driving those issues to resolution.  The PE is also expected to manage pervasive field issues, provide field communications on fix releases, and participate on internal and external conference calls to explain technical issues.  

What You'll Do

  • Use lab hardware to replicate customer configurations in order to replicate customer failure scenarios 
  • Read and interpret hardware error logs and OS logs to isolate problems
  • Use specialized debug equipment (SAS/FC/Network analyzers/UART) to isolate complex client problems 
  • For certain products that are part of OEM agreements, interface with OEM Storage Development Partners Level 3 teams to drive fixes for field issues
  • Participate on pre-product activities, taking technical positions for defect deferrals and hardware design changes
  • Interface with client and customer to explain technical solutions and maintain customer satisfaction 
  • Generate technical documentation for service personnel and clients to follow
  • Provide on-site assistance to resolve critical client technical issues
  • Maintain key data for products assigned (specification, publication, product tips, defects, engineering changes and history, product roadmaps, lifecycle features and functions on release cadences)
  • For Critical cases or client outages, position may require ability to project manage collective remote support OEM/Lenovo teams to urgently restore client systems
  • Ordering and maintaining capital assets and lab equipment
  • Engage and interact with cross geographical teams 
  • Participate in the on-call rotation cycle to address critical customer issues

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of work related experience 
  • Fluent spoken and written English skills is a requirement to interact with customers, Lenovo project managers, and other engineers
  • The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of Open Systems storage system technologies (Block, File(NFS/CIFS), and Object base storage architectures, storage protocols/standards (iSCSI, SAS, SCSI, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, FCoE, RoCE, iWarp, RDMA, NVMe) advanced functions (external virtualization, data compression, mirroring, data dedup), RAID technologies, and Erasure Coding.     
  • Candidate should also have a working knowledge of operating systems that may exist in an Open Systems Environment (AIX, Solaris, VMware, Windows Server, Red Hat, SUSE, Debian, COS).  
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering discipline
  • Working knowledge and prior work experience in either a development, test, or support role in Block Storage Environments
