◇Position Description◇

■Position: Head of Communications, Lenovo Japan

■Roles and responsibilities

・We are seeking a strong leader to be a strategic adviser to our Japan business on Lenovo’s growth and innovation journey in the region. This is a critical leadership role that will drive the entire spectrum of communications (thought leadership, executive, employee, product, crisis, events) and manage our communication team and agency in Japan.

・The ideal candidate must shape effectively and collaboratively Lenovo’s story in the areas of technology innovation, digital transformation, customer experience and corporate culture in a way that is refreshing, authentic and relevant to Japan. Additionally, the candidate should have the experience both of our corporate brands namely Lenovo and NEC.


■Must Have– essential

A proven track record in bridging communications strategy to business imperatives in the Japan market

・Extensive experience managing and advising C-level executives

・Stellar writing and presentation skills in Japanese and English.

Deep understanding of the media, influencer and analyst landscape in Japan

・Excellent grasp of trends and developments in social media, employee engagement and public relations

・Experience in driving employee engagement message development, campaigns and content creation

・Strong experience in leading issues management and crisis communications

・Strong understanding of social media tools and platforms and how to most effectively leverage these in different contexts

・Innate ability to be able to balance being strategic with hands-on execution

・Successful track record in inspiring and leading a remote team of seasoned communications professionals and PR agencies

・Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced and matrixed environment

・Must be comfortable working in a decentralized environment but also collaborating well with central Business Group and global communications teams as required

・Energetic, positive, flexible, collaborative, confident, articulate, hard-working, meticulous, and able to learn quickly

・Keen to push boundaries, try new things and challenge traditional ways of doing PR

・At least 15 years of experience in corporate communications, with a mix of in-house and/or PR agency experience with high-tech domain knowledge as a plus

The position solidly/directly reports into the Asia Pacific Communication lead and the dotted reporting line would be to the Japan marketing head.

【The candidate must be able to travel for work assignments as required as below】

There is a certain amount of domestic travel involved, but the position does not require constant travel like a traveling sales job

・Prior to the pandemic, this position did require overseas travel 4-5 times per year. During the past few years, we had much less overseas travel and it seems to be working fine so we are unlikely to return to that intensity. However, in the next year or two the position would indeed be likely to require 1-2 overseas trips per year (maximum).
