Description and Requirements
Join Lenovo’s Global corporate ESG team as an engineer responsible for Lenovo’s corporate product carbon initiatives. The position will support Lenovo’s corporate Net-Zero targets and other corporate ESG and sustainability initiatives. This role will report to the EMEA ESG Manager.
This role requires knowledge of product carbon footprint (PCF) and/or life cycle assessment (LCA) principles and standards as well as an understanding of climate change related requirements including the greenhouse gas reporting protocol and the SBTi Net-Zero standard. The role will work in close collaboration with internal stakeholders including corporate Net-Zero and Climate engineers, product development, services, sales, and marketing, and outside organizations including customers and partners to ensure Lenovo’s corporate product carbon footprint programs and standards are compliant with external requirements including SBTi, the GHG Reporting Protocol, ISSB/Hong Kong Stock Exchange ESG guidance, and other disclosure and regulatory requirements.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manage Lenovo’s corporate-level product carbon footprint program. Drive consistent standards and approaches across hardware and services product lines. Work closely with Lenovo’s Global Supply Chain organization to drive improvements in management of Scope 3 GHG/PCF data.
- Drive corporate level initiatives related to Lenovo’s Scope 3 – Use of Sold Products – greenhouse gas emissions, including continual improvement of metrics and tracking, driving corporate level mitigation and enhancement programs, improving processes and communications related to product carbon footprints.
- Support corporate level guidance and recommendations to business groups’ LCA and carbon offset programs.
- Drive corporate level product carbon objectives and targets, establish, monitor, and measure related metrics and report results to management, customers and investors or in ESG/sustainability reporting documents, communication documents and websites, etc.
- Track and communicate regulations and standards development related to product carbon footprint calculations and disclosures; ensure PCF standards meets Eco-label requirements (e.g. EPEAT).
- Ensure corporate PCF program meets Lenovo’s global Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements and participate in annual EMS processes for target setting and reporting and participate in EMS audits.
- Manage and drive innovation in Lenovo’s global internal processes, documents, and databases defining responsibilities and training for Lenovo organizations including product development, global supply chain, services, sales and other.
- Provide corporate review of PCF disclosures as part of product release process and manage PCF database on external webpage.
- Provide corporate level support to sales and product certifications teams in providing custom product carbon footprint information for customers
- Engage with external standards bodies, NGOs, industry trade organization and others to drive improvements to PCF and Scope 3 emissions requirements.
- Assist extended ESG team with additional projects as needed.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five years of experience in environmental, ESG, compliance, life cycle assessment, product carbon footprint, climate change, sustainability or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Engineering or science related degree
- Experience performing life cycle assessment studies or product carbon footprint calculations
- Familiarity with simplified PCF tools like PAIA or similar
- Experience with GaBi, SimaPro, or other LCA modelling software
- Familiarity with ISO 14067 or other standards related to carbon footprint
- Experience with CDP Climate disclosures
- Experience with electronic product ecolabel programs such as EPEAT or TCO
- Experience with ESG surveys including Ecovadis, Thesis, or similar
