Description and Requirements
Lenovo is currently seeking an in-house Director, Legal Counsel, China/AP that will be responsible for the regional development, delivery and ongoing oversight of import/export compliance processes by understanding and applying relevant and applicable national laws and regulations of the People’s Republic of China, Hong Kong an AP. The role reports to the Executive Director, Legal, Lead Government Relations, Global Trade Regulations, Ethics and Compliance attorney in the US and will require the management of a local trade legal team in China, Hong Kong and AP.
Job Responsibilities
- Identifies strategies, develops compliance program tools for training and self-audits, and works with business contacts to ensure compliant processes are implemented and regulatory requirements are met.
- Provides ongoing support to ensure compliance processes are maintained and program weaknesses are identified and corrected.
- Monitors, interprets and communicates regulatory requirements.
- Assists in the management of issues arising from program/process deficiencies and/or government inquiries/audits.
- Provides legal support to global trade compliance and trade daily operations teams.
- Provides legal support related to global trade to sales management teams in China, Hong Kong and wider AP.
- Must have a working knowledge of trade regulations in the wider AP region.
Basic Job Requirements:
- Prior work experience
- 15+ years of relevant experience required
- 5+ years of managing people
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies (KSAC’s)
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of customs and export laws and regulations in China, Hong Kong, wider Asia Pacific and the United States.
- Strong knowledge of related import laws, transfer pricing policies, and import and export control laws, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of US export control requirements and sanctions is a plus.
- Ability to initiate, lead and manage complex projects with limited supervision required.
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and teamwork skills required.
- Educational Requirements
- JD or equivalent in China, Hong Kong, or US
- Travel Requirements (expected % travel)
- 25%
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience at any top US-based law firms in China or Hong Kong is a plus
- Ability to understand US, UK and EU Sanctions requirements and their applicability abroad
- Working knowledge of trade regulations in other Asia Pacific locations
