Description and Requirements

Lenovo Infrastructure and Solutions Group (ISG)’s Platform Development Team is looking for a Distinguished Engineer for Platform Memory Subsystem Architecture.

The position reports to the VP of Platform Development and has technical leadership responsibility across the portfolio for memory subsystem design, quality, and reliability spanning multiple global sites. The role interfaces directly with product marketing, customers, external partners, and internal stakeholders to design and deliver best-in-class ISG solutions.

A successful candidate will be a strong technical leader, comfortable working with a broad team of peer Distinguished Engineers and have deep industry and customer collaboration experiences. This role also requires proven leadership in both tactical – proven success leading products through execution – and strategic – identifying future differentiation and opportunities – situations.

Lenovo’s ISG is a key partner to many of the world’s largest Cloud Service Providers, who drive unique requirements and development models. Experiences in leading development efforts with CSPs and their unique processes are valuable and desired.

Candidates can be local to our headquarters or may be remote. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the organization’s knowledge and expertise on the latest memory technologies and trends, propose technical roadmap to ensure ISG's leading position.
  • Work closely with industry leaders (platform / memory), ISG solution and performance team to advise on system architecture design from memory and memory subsystem perspectives.
  • Drive common portfolio level memory subsystem architecture and provide deep expertise on memory RAS feature planning and implementation from controller, memory supplier and platform design perspective for ISG server products.
  • Work with a team of other distinguished experts in firmware, I/O, power, thermal, etc. to lead the memory subsystem architecture and design, and to conduct research and lead proof of concept for future memory subsystem technologies.
  • Work hands on with ISG’s Quality Team to ensure the highest degree of memory subsystem reliability for current and future products that meet Lenovo’s commitment to customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in engineering required
  • 15+ years' of work experience with hands-on on volatile memory related development and 5 years in architecture leadership role
  • Experience with memory topologies ranging from single socket servers up to 8 socket servers

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Recognition as an industry expert with broad and deep experience with memory technology:
  • Knowledge and experience with memory topologies ranging from single socket servers up to 8 socket servers
  • Deep understanding of error correction algorithms and memory controller design at the RTL level
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical analysis of DIMM failure rates / modes
  • Participation in JEDEC and future memory technologies
  • Deep understanding of alternate memory interconnects and architectures such as CXL, memory centric compute, memory tiering, advanced caching enablement.
  • Experience innovating and working with software and firmware enablement of advanced memory RAS, Pre-failure Monitoring, ACPI, NUMA awareness and optimization approaches.
  • Deep understanding of memory centric customer workloads such as in memory databases (SAP, etc.) and benchmarking.
  • Design experiences including creation of memory subsystem designs, ability to assess and clearly communicate design tradeoffs (including cost, expense, performance, reliability, serviceability, and customer experience).
  • Proven focus on impactful innovation including a rich patent portfolio and demonstrated successful collaboration across teams, companies, and the industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership across world-wide cultures and geographies, with an emphasis on coaching and development of future technical leaders, strong communication skills and an ability to represent Lenovo and ISG well to employees, partners, customers, and the industry.
  • Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy with an ability to navigate ambiguity and drive results in a complex, high growth environment.
The base salary range budgeted for this position is $220-000-$250,000. Individuals may also be considered for bonuses and/or commissions. Lenovo's various benefits can be found at www.lenovobenefits.com.
