Description and Requirements

Job Responsibilities:

Essential functions and duties       

  • Working within, monitoring, and maintaining Lenovo’s patent database, i.e., IPFolio, on a daily basis to ensure accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Supporting operations of Invention Review Boards in Japan.
  • Managing patent award payment processes. 
  • Preparing and obtaining required signatures from Lenovo Inventors for patent portfolio documentation (assignments and declarations).  
  • Maintaining up-to-date training manual as to patent docketing and processes 
  • Developing best practices and internal standard operating procedures for ensuring high functioning patent/design/trademark filing and Japanese patent awards processes.
  • Supporting Patent Portfolio Managers to manage IP budget and corresponding filing plans.

Job Requirements:

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills in Japanese and English, both written and verbal.
  • Familiarity with the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), Japan, China, US, and other foreign patent filing procedures and rules.
  • Ability to manage patent filings and processes with excellent organizational skills and provide high-quality support to Patent Portfolio Teams.
  • Prior experience in managing and working with SEPs and SEP portfolios is preferred but not essential.
  • Must be proactive, self-disciplined, and able to work independently and globally in a virtual team.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and flexibly in a team-oriented environment and open to receive constructive feedback.
  • Ability to prioritize time-sensitive tasks and manage multiple, concurrent tasks and assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precision and accuracy.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Prior work experience 

  • At least 3 years of Japanese or foreign paralegal experience in a law firm or in-house corporate setting is preferred but not essential.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
