Description and Requirements

The Procurement Engineer plans and directs activities concerned with suppliers & commodities development, starting from audit & maintenance of suppliers’ quality standards, processes, materials, and products until supplier’s products qualification following specific Lenovo standards. This position is highly connected with new products portfolio, ultimate worldwide technology and with procurement critical contracts & procedures.

Key Responsibilities

•           Evaluation and selection of world class suppliers in considering ESG, technical capability, quality, delivery and cost

•           Perform Quality System, Process and Product assessments & audits on suppliers to determine supplier core competencies and recommend valuable suppliers which will support Lenovo business properly

•           Work with AVL suppliers to continuously improve performance, implement process controls and develop quality assurance plans

•           Develop suppliers in the areas of compliance, Six Sigma methods, Value Stream mapping, standard work, 5-S, 8D failure analysis, APQP, FMEA & available quality tools for preventative action, corrective action, and continuous improvement

•           Responsible to act as a liaison between cross functional teams, and to review and approve PPAP’s from suppliers for submission to the Manufacturing Teams and Customers

•           Prepare and submit supplier scorecards, action plans and update the Approved Vendors List (AVL) as required

•           Conduct in-depth review and follow-up on the implementation of supplier action plans for poor scorecard performance

•           Lead corrective actions as required from supplier 8D’s or non-conformance reports

•           Lead the implementation of the Vendor Readiness Review concept to the supply base

•           Work with Lenovo’s worldwide Engineers to align and develop standards and methods for qualification, inspection, testing and evaluation at candidate and/or AVL suppliers

•           Work with suppliers to devise product samples for qualification following standard procedures and specifications, driving suppliers to create and/or update control dashboards, forms and instructions for samples shipment. Every step must be recorded, evaluated and reported from the first qualification step until the final reliability data.

•           Prepare Supplier’s quarter or semestral business review, controlling, reporting supplier’s scorecard KPI’s and tracking all action plans for supplier performance improvement

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

•           Good understanding and working experience with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, Statistical Process Control, Design of Experiments and Six Sigma problem solving methods

•           Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, safety rules, reliability procedures, international organization for standards (ISO, IPC, RBA, EPEAT, ESG, CDP, UL & TUV) and national standards (INMETRO & ANATEL) showing proper ability to write routine reports in correspondence

•           Ability to think logical and critically to measure the pros and cons and take the most appropriate decisions in a quickly from the available resources

•           Ability to perform quality audits on suppliers to assure products and services meet International Organization for Standards (ISO), regulatory standards and Lenovo internal standards

•           Ability to develop good rapport with the purchasing department, manufacturing and production departments to prepare commodities qualification plans and reports according company needs

•           Must be an active listener with good time management skills in order to work with suppliers and project management teams to define deliverables

•           Must possess great organizational and communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with management

•           Ability to work with minimum supervision to meet customer’s requirements

•           Must have complete knowledge of APQP documents like PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans and Quality and Environmental standards, TS16949 and ISO 14000

•           Ability to speak effectively before groups of suppliers, customers or employees of organization

•           Ability to review and approve technical Not Recurrent Expenses (NRE)

•           Ability to travel as this position requires 15% travel for audit and meeting with suppliers
