Description and Requirements

We are hiring a Senior Database and Admin Engineer for our team in Bucharest! 

Our team is developing a microservices based platform which aims to bring the “as a service” experience into our customer’s datacenters and offload them from the burden of running complex IT systems so they can focus on bringing value to their customers.

Our customer will use this platform to:

  • Manage hardware infrastructure.  
  • Orchestrate software updates and configurations for data center servers.  
  • Provision virtualized workloads in various bare-metal clusters.  
  • Deploy the latest observability technologies to automate monitoring and capacity planning.  
  • Benefit from innovative support capabilities, including automatic problem detection and troubleshooting.

We are seeking a highly motivated senior database engineer to drive the architecture, detailed design and implementation of all aspects of the data layer of the platform including relational databases, NoSQL databases, big data platform and data analytics functions of the platform.

 

In this position you will:


  • Design, build and implement highly available, secure and performance efficient database infrastructure
  • Design and implement efficient production operations processes (monitoring, High Availability, backup, restore)
  • Design and implement ETL logic
  • Review the design of existing databases being used
  • Work closely with product management and developers to help designing of required database structures, resolve problems as well as optimize performance
  • Mentor and train colleagues where necessary by helping them learn and improve their DB administration skills, as well as innovate and iterate on best practices

 

Apply if you have:

  • B.S./M.S in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering (with programming skills/experience) or Computer Science (with hardware skills/experience) or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience developing and shipping commercial SW product or developing and supporting commercial SaaS platform
  • Experience architecting, implementing, deploying, optimizing and operating relational databases:
    • PostgreSQL or AWS Aurora are highly desirable
    • Oracle, IBM DB2, MS SQL Server, MySQL are nice to have
  • Experience architecting, implementing, deploying, optimizing and operating NoSQL databases:
    • Cassandra, ScyllaDB or InfluxDB are highly desirable
    • Redis, Neo4j, MongoDB, Elasticsearch are nice to have
  • Experience with performance and scalability optimizations, implementing ETL logic, backup, restore and other database related operations processes
  • Hands on experience programming in Python and with Shell Scripting
  • Ability to understand, articulate and document business and technical requirements
  • Experience working with and creating data architectures
  • Linux administration and/or development experience
  • Excellent communications skills – able to work with teams across cultures fostering trust and collaboration. Comfortable presenting to large groups and executives.
  • Excellent English speaking and writing skills
  • Investigation and debugging skills
  • Openness  to attend meetings outside of standard working hours, to accommodate teams in other time zones.

Nice to have:

  • Hands on experience programming in R, Scala, Java, C
  • Proficient knowledge of optimization, concurrency, scale-up vs scale-out, encryption, application- and process-level security, etc. in an Apache/Hadoop environment is a plus
  • Experience with cloud containerization environments: Docker, Kubernetes
  • Experience architecting, implementing, deploying, optimizing and operating distributed frameworks: Apache Spark, Storm, Kafka, Hadoop
  • Experience with Analytics Libraries: Numpy/Scipy, Scikit Learn, PyMC, Pandas, Jupyter, MLlib, Theano, PyTorch, GraphX
  • Experience and/or coursework in Deep Learning and experience with TensorFlow and Caffe
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.)
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience deploying analytical models to solve business problems
  • Ability to develop experimental and analytical plans for data modeling processes
  • Experience with data visualization tools
  • CI/CD experience including use of Git, Gerrit and Jenkins or other similar CI/CD tools and platforms
  • OpenStack, VMWare vCloud or SDDS, AWS, Azure experience highly desired
  • Understanding of Database Security
