Description and Requirements

The Server Design Performance Architect is a key component of Lenovo's new product introduction for the ISG (Infrastructure Solutions Group) development team. This role will serve as the technical leader of the Performance team, analyzing, modeling, and directing performance design, setting short-term and long-term performance objectives, researching new technologies and usage models in the industry, experimenting with new performance designs and collaborating closely with external vendors and internal development function teams including but not limited to firmware, power, memory and system design architects to optimize platform performance designs for better product competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own and deliver modeling-based design guidance and performance best practices using technical specifications, prior technology performance measurement and industry knowledge
- Drive future performance innovation:
- Identify methods to enable optimal peak performance across all processor technologies
- Broadly communicate advantages available nextgen architecture & microarchitecture features and parameters
- Ensure AI/ML products enables designs that differentiate Lenovo performance
- Influence architectural decisions owned by the System leads and ARB (Architectural Review Board) to help close market requirements.
- Lead worldwide benchmark teams with modeling-based performance projections – to determine whether a product will provide Leadership or Competitive performance
- Analyze performance workload data collected from both benchmark and validation teams on performance traces to update model projections and technical performance collateral.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar
- Minimum of 5 years with Intel/AMD x86 processor-based server architecture or x86 server design
- Deep understanding of server subsystems (CPU, memory, storage, network) and how they interact to provide optimal performance for a wide variety of applications and workload categories
- Previous experience with performance monitoring tools and conducting analysis of the results to diagnose performance bottlenecks or to influence the design of server architecture models
- At least 2 years experience interacting with senior technical engineering staff and executives and to concisely explain the results of server architecture performance modeling
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to model server architectures to project application performance of future server designs and to compare/contrast the performance of different server architectures
- Proficient in at least one structured programming language (C, C++, or Java) and at least one scripting language (python, perl, ruby)
- Experience with built in Linux and Windows server performance monitoring tools to diagnose server performance bottlenecks
- Hands on experience with Intel/AMD x86 server installation and configuration including add in devices such as network adapters, host bus adapters, and NVMe storage devices
- Experience with network switches and external storage devices and how they can affect datacenter level performance
