Description and Requirements

About Our Team

We are seeking a Server System Engineer with server/PC development or system engineer experience that includes motherboard and components design and a debugging background. This is an exciting role in Cloud Service Provider Group (CSP) that has a strong focus to be the #1 infrastructure provider for cloud datacenters that providing computing, storage, and GPU services to cloud customers. 

The system engineer will be an integral member of a team responsible for developing, testing innovative and complex GPU servers with liquid cooling. These organic designs provide exposure to the latest technologies from Lenovo, its development partners, and customers. At Lenovo, we pride ourselves on delivering end-to-end solutions tailored to meet even the most unique customer demands. 

Our CSP solutions are conceptualized, developed, and deployed worldwide, all within our in-house expertise.

What You'll Do

  • Develop, qualify Racks/server infrastructure in cloud data center, include compute server, storage server, GPU server.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to design and develop server hardware, including server motherboards and hardware components, DIMMs, NICs, FPGA, Storage, chassis, air/liquid cooling systems, and power supplies.
  • Utilize advanced debugging techniques and tools to identify and resolve hardware issues during development and post-production phases. Conduct root cause analysis and implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, firmware developers, customer engineering teams and vendor FAEs, communicate technical issues and resolution effectively.
  • Participate in prototype development and testing phases to validate design concepts and functionality. Conduct performance benchmarks and stress tests to identify potential improvements. Working together with PA engineers to develop automated test scripts to complete test requirements.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering with 3+ years of industry experience as system engineer or hardware developer, include board design, board bring-up, troubleshoot and resolve issues with hardware systems and components in lab environment.
  • Experience with Linux/Windows Operating systems and shell scripting (BASH/Perl/Python and Windows Power Shell)
  • Customer engagement experience

 

Preferred Qualifications (We have multiple openings based on your preferred qualification areas and expertise depth.)

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or computer engineering.
  • Previous PC workstation or server or storage or GPU hardware development or support experience with x86 or ARM processors.
  • Previous experiences in Embedded Firmware Development, with Firmware tools like Debugger, Emulator, Logic analyzer, Oscilloscopes: to monitor signals, power consumption, and communication between components during debugging.
  • Experience with GPU Server, background in GPU architecture and Nvidia ARM based technology is strongly preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) technologies, such as rigid, hybrid, HDI, etc
  • Experience and knowledge of hardware-software interaction: OS, FW(BIOS/UEFI), BMC
  • Experience in storage, SSD, HDD, JBOD technologies.
  • Simulation tools: Use of hardware simulation software like Verilog, VHDL, or SystemC to design and verify components.
  • PCB Design software: Tools like Altium Designer, OrCAD, Candece or KiCAD for creating server motherboard designs.
  • Knowledge of standard interfaces including I3C, SPI, PCIe, MIPI CSI/DSI, and FPGA hardware designs.
