About Our Team
We are hiring System Engineering Lead – CSP to work in Lenovo's Cloud Service Provide Group (CSP). This is a fast-paced customer-centric organization that will adapt to changing market demands to serve customer needs. We're the only company with true end-to-end capabilities for even the most unique datacenter computing solution. Our CSP solutions can be designed, manufactured, tested, serviced, and deployed worldwide using only Lenovo teams and without any other JDM support required at any stage of the product lifecycle.
Location: This position is based in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.
What You’ll Do
• Stay current on Intel x86, AMD, Nvidia, FPGA, and ARM based technology roadmaps and understand how this technology can drive future datacenter architecture for industry and worldwide top public cloud customers
• Collaborate with customer engineering teams and Lenovo sales and marketing teams to extract and understand customer requirements in order to drive server designs/architectures, node/rack/scale level test plans, cable mappings, rack configurations, serviceability, manageability, etc.
• Create specifications and collateral that define the next generation hyperscale platforms
• Lead CSP development team to work out the design proposals with --Product and system spec --System architecture and placement --Demonstrate Lenovo design and engineering capability --Game plan and development strategy to win customer and business
• Perform subsystem/node/rack/lab level power analysis and rack level architecture/cable mapping/BOM development
• Log review meetings with validation/development teams and test plan reviews with validation/development/customer teams
• Engagement with suppliers and partners of hardware building blocks such as storage devices, network controllers, FPGAs, encryption/accelerator devices, GPUs and other emerging technology hardware devices
• Continue to promote innovation within Lenovo and the computing industry by filing new patents annually
• Own end-to-end product delivery (power point to production) from pre-concept to launch of platforms
• Work closely with validation engineering team, systems engineering team and manufacturing engineering team to drive issues found during test to closure between commodity vendor and customer
• Help identify areas of testing that could be automated and work with validation/script team to implement automation
• Be a role model within the team, mentoring, sharing and teaching others to grow technical skills.
• Help TPMs define development and test schedules
• Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective actions to ensure product quality.
• Document best practices and lessons learned to improve product quality and test efficiency.
Basic Qualifications:
• Undergraduate BSEE or BSCE degree required
• 10+ years work experience in server and hardware development/validation with thorough understanding of computer hardware/firmware/software architecture
• Experience scripting in PowerShell, Python, Perl, bash, batch, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
• A Master’s degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering is a plus.
• Hyperscale/Cloud experience
• Can use oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, host bus adapters, meters, and other test equipment to debug HW/SW/FW issues
• Cross discipline understanding of engineering that covers Thermal, Mechanical, Power, Power Management, and TCO of the Datacenter
• Experience in direct customer engagements and the ability to interface with Lenovo and customer executives
• Ability to understand customer requirements; interpret these requirements and convert them into a competitive CSP platform portfolio
• Deep knowledge of X86 Intel server architecture (BIOS/ME/BMC/HW Sequencing/Control, etc.)
• Thorough understanding of PCIe, SAS/SATA, I2C/I3C, SPI, eSPI/LPC, PMBUS/SMBUS, CAN and other commonly used communication buses
• Knowledge of design elements of OCP (Open Compute Project) based HW is a plus
• Proficiency with Linux server operating systems
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
• Ability to work effectively cross-culturally across teams in the USA, Asia and Mexico
