The pace of technology change in this market is rapid, and our development engineers are constantly challenged to improve the thermal performance and efficiency of our products. Lenovo is looking for an engineer with a strong desire to innovate on thermal solutions for our server products.

Basic Requirements:

- An engineer with a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a deep background of demonstrated research or product development for high performance cooling solutions using advanced cold plate technologies.

- Original research in developing novel cold plate designs for single or two phase cooling to provide solutions for next generation processors that could exceed 1000W power consumption

- Demonstrated examples of modeling, prototype enabling and successful evaluation of solutions that allow for next generation cooling solutions to deliver very low PUE solutions for efficient solutions for high ambient boundary conditions enabled by either warm air for the edge or warm water for HPC systems.

- An understanding of the optimization parameters to be used for next generation product development where a multi-disciplinary approach is essential to enable novel product solutions.

- Working with mechanical design engineers , power design engineers and system engineers to pioneer next generation cooling solutions.

- Working with the broader thermal engineering team to collaborate to build the solutions under the direction of the thermal architect to bring new and sustainable cooling solutions to the industry in a delivered product.

Preferred Requirements 

- Experience using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools to predict operating performance of the server is required. Specific experience with Flotherm and / or Icepak is required.

- Knowledge of the cooling loop thermo-fluid mechanics when two phase fluid behaviour is expected for the thermal solution.

- Modeling and testing skills to validate a design is required.

- System model build using prototype hardware and measuring airflow and temperature on the air bench is required.

- Data acquisition and ability to organize and summarize results is required.

- Code skills such as Matlab, Python, or Java to automate data collection and report generation is desired.

- Knowledge of computer firmware code and algorithms that set operating points, and fault conditions is desired.

- Knowledge of CAD, material strength, power consumption, and acoustics requirements and the impact of thermal designs on them is desired.

- Quick problem solving to debug failure behaviour is required to solve customer facing problems or system design escapes to resolve problems in a timely manner.
